Microsoft’s New Windows Phone Ad Pokes Fun at iPhone-Android Flame Wars(source--iphonehacks)

lumia switch ad
We all know how worked up people can get when it comes to defending their mobile platform of choice, be it iPhone, Android or even Windows Phone. The sheer number of Android and iPhone users, however, make iPhone vs. Android flame wars much more common than ones that involve Windows Phone or Nokia.

Taking advantage of this, Microsoft has released a new ad for the Nokia Lumia920 titled “Don’t fight. Switch,” poking fun at the enthusiastic fans on both sides of the iPhone vs. Androiddebates. Here have a look:

The ad is really funny, but goes out to show an acknowledgement from Microsoft itself that the platform doesn’t have its own set of fans. Tell us what you think of the ad in the comments below.

Cheap Plastic iPhone Coming(source--absonthejailbreak)

Cheap Plastic iPhone Coming ? - Apple is easily the most targeted company in the whole internet rumor mill. Barely a week goes by without us hearing a whole lot of new rumors about a new iPad, iPhone, MacBook or if we are lucky, even an iWatch. A budget iPhone has been a hot topic since a long time and with all the stock trouble Apple has having, it really looks like 2013 to be the year Apple may change it with a few new products and a cheap iPhone certainly would help in this situation.

Cheap Plastic iPhone Coming

Cheap Plastic iPhone Coming
Apple really isn’t a fan of cheap plastic-y products but a lot of things have been changing in the Tim Cooks-led company, so we can’t rule out the possibility of a plastic iPhone. Ferry Passchier decided to dig into it and managed to make some plastic iPhone concepts in not 1, not 2, not 3, but 10 colors!
Cheap Plastic iPhone Coming
Here is what he says about it,
Since we didn’t know which colors to pick, we decided to do ten. Tactus claimed to have the plastic shell so we threw in a little of that as well. We then fed it to one of our favorite 3D modelers Ferry Passchier. He did an incredible job combining the reports into a realistic render with the color options above. He also provided us with a real life render below.

How To Enable System-Wide Facebook Chat Heads On Your iPhone With Message Box

facebook-chat-heads
Earlier in the month, Facebook released a major update for its iOS app that brought iconic features such as Chat Heads, Stickers from Facebook Home for Android to the iPhone and iPad.
However, due to the limitations of iOS, Facebook hasn’t been able to bring Chat Heads system-wide.
Last week, we told you about a jailbreak tweak called Message Box was in the works that could bring Chat Heads system-wide to the iPhone. We’ve some good news if you’ve been eagerly waiting for it.
Adam Bell, developer of MessageBox has just released the beta version of GitHub. Here’s how to install it:
Update:
Message Box is now available on Cydia. Tap on the download link provided below to install it from Cydia instead of using the iFile method.
Requirements:
  • Ensure Facebook app is installed on yourjailbroken iPhone.
  • This method needs iFile installed on your iPhone.
Now follow these simple steps:
  • Download Message Box .deb file on your jailbroken iPhone. Tap on this download link on your jailbroken iPhone.
  • Tap on “Open in iFile” button on the top right corner.
enable_chat_heads-1
  • This will open iFile. Tap on the Installeroption from the menu.
enable_chat_heads-2
  • Then tap on the “Done” button. This will install the .deb file.
  • Reboot your jailbroken iPhone.
That’s it. You should now be able to use Chat Heads system-wide on your jailbroken iPhone. To see if it works, launch the Facebook app, initiate a conversation by tapping on your Contacts and quit the Facebook app. The Chat Heads should still be accessible on the Home screen or even when you launch any app. You can easily remove them by tapping and dragging them to the bottom section of the screen.
Adam has also submitted the tweak to the Big Boss repo, so it should be available for free on Cydia shortly, in case you want a more hassle free way to install the tweak.
Check out the demo video of system-wide Chat Heads:

It’s quite cool and exactly how Facebook would have liked to implement the feature on the iPhone.
Let us know how it goes and what you think of system-wide Chat Heads. Kudos to Adam Bell to make this possible.
Update:
Message Box is now available on Cydia via the Big Boss repo. Tap on the download link below to install it from Cydia.

Woz Says Apple’s Future Products Will Surprise and Shock us All

steve_wozniakApple’s stock fell below the $400 point, a 16-month low two days ago. This obviously resurfaced questions about the company’s future, but Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak believes that the company is working on products that will surprise us all.
Speaking at a technology conference in Lithuania, Woz said:
Apple’s stock price is a little low right now. Over time I’ve seen Apple go up or down 2x over a few months. It’s very disappointing because if you look at the amount of cash that Apples holds that cash translates to one to two hundred dollars per share of stock just in cash form. So the expectations are a little lower even than they expect.
But where are the profits of the whole industry though? They are still with Apple and profits are all that really matter in the long run. Apple’s business model tends to be new products, even products that didn’t exist before and doing well out of them and not re-making the same thing, as eventually that just gets a little bit stale. So I would guess that Apple is very well prepared, and working on new things that are going to surprise and shock us all. And I honestly don’t know [what].
Though Woz’s information isn’t based on any inside info, we can’t help but think that Apple’s working on something big, given how silent it has been this year.
Woz did share his thoughts on what he’d like computers to become in the future:
“Computers should save us from a lot of thinking, like calculating numbers. When electronic calculators came about they freed our minds to think of other things and enabled us to get to where we are today.”
Voice recognition, Woz says, would become more common, enabling people to interact with their devices using another medium. Siri’s promise was exactly this, but it hasn’t quite lived upto people’s expectations.

iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak Status(source--absinthejailbreak)

iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak Status – Apple released iOS 6.1.3 to the public. Prior to the release of this firmware, it was said that Apple fixed few bugs and also patched exploits used by Evasi0n to jailbreak all iOS capable devices running iOS 6.0 -6.1.2. Hackers have warned those that wants an untethered jailbreak to refrain from updating to the latest firmware (iOS 6.1.3).

iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak Status

iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak Status

Some heeded to this warning and some didn’t. Consequently, those that upgraded to this latest firmware are still waiting for an untethered jailbreak for their devices.
Sadly, there won’t be an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 for all iDevices. According to tweets by one of the notable hackers @pod2j, ”
we (Evad3rs) are not working on a iOS 6.1.3 jailbreak that would be too much effort for a minimal update. We’re waiting for a major release.
iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak Status
Truly speaking, it will be useless to expend so much energy on a minor update like iOS 6.1.3 just to please a minor few that updated to it.
Although, its not all bad news as some devices can be tethered jailbroken like iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G on iOS 6.1.3 with the help ofRedsn0w 0.9.15b3 and snowbreeze 2.9.14.
Furthermore, even if you downgraded from iOS 6.1.3 to  6.1.2, you will be able to convert tethered to untethered.
Therefore, if you want an untethered jailbreak on your device, you should stay away from updating to iOS 6.1.3.
According to these hackers, work is more focused on jailbreaking a newer major firmware that would be released (iOS 6.2 or 7.0) in order to release its untethered jailbreak in record time. This can  be seen in one of the tweets of Joshua Hill below
iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak Status
According to Joshua Hill tweet, he is making substantial progress on perhaps untethered jailbreak of this major firmware release. This isn’t surprising because he started working on it long ago. The effort to bring untethered jailbreak to iOS 7 is really going strong and we can expect an untethered jailbreak as soon as this iOS 7 is released.
For those that would be getting new iDevices shipped with iOS 6.0, use evasi0n to jailbreak your device. Do not try updating to 6.1.3 for now if you want untethered jailbreak.
In Summary,
  • There is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 only on old bootrom 3GS.
  • Tethered jailbreak only support iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G.
  • iPhone 4S and 5 users cannot downgrade there firmware from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 6.1.2. Only A4 devices can.
Finally, our esteemed hackers who just finished the Hack In The Box (HITB) conference are working intensely on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7. That should put smiles on our faces again when iOS 7 is released.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 On iPhone And iPod Touch Using Sn0wbreeze 2.9.14(source--absinthejailbreak)

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.3 On iPhone And iPod Touch Using Sn0wbreeze 2.9.14 - Last month, Apple released iOS 6.1.3 to fix the famous “Bypass Lock screen bug”. This new update also brought a bad news for the Jailbreak community; Apple has already fixed the Evasi0n Jailbreak in iOS 6.1.3. On the other side, Jailbreak developers are not working for iOS 6.1.3 Jailbreak. However, if you have iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G or iPhone 3Gs and have accidently updated it to iOS 6.1.3, you can jailbreak it using Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze v2.9.14 (Tethered). Yes, the Toronto based hacker, iH8sn0w has updated the sn0wbreeze to Jailbreak iPhone 3Gs, 4 or iPod Touch 4G.

Like Redsn0w, it is also a tethered Jailbreak but it is suitable for those iPhone users whose iPhone relies on ultrasn0w for unlock. The other benefit of sn0wbreeze is that you can install certain Cydia Packages right from your computer. For all those, who don’t know, sn0wbreeze is only available for Windows PC. How To Fix Blank App Store Update Page(source--absinthejailbreak)

Just immediately after restoring to iOS 6.1 and jailbreak untethered, I re-installed all my apps, connected to the internet. Within minutes, badge of 17 updates showed up on my App Store icon. This means that I have apps that needs to be updated.
Immediately I launched the App Store app, clicked Updates and waited for 5 minutes only to be greeted with a blank white update screen. At first I though my internet connection was the problem or maybe iOS 6.1 had a bug. However, I found out that other people have reported the issue on 6.1.1 and 6.1.2 too.

Purported ‘iPhone 5S’ Part Reveals Push Button Mute Switch(source--iphonehacks)

Japanese parts vendor, iLab Factory, has published photos, which they claim are parts of the next generation iPhone.
The photos show a flex cable for the device’s home button, a second flex cable housing the vibrator and volume/mute controls and also a third flex cable that appears to house the device’s front camera.
Eric Slivka of MacRumors who was the first to report on these alleged photos of iPhone 5S parts makes an interesting observation:
The part contains a strip of three buttons to run along the edge of the device, corresponding to the locations of the two volume buttons and the mute switch on previous iPhone models. But on this part, all three features appear to be buttons, suggesting that this upcoming iPhone may see the mute switch become a push button.
ilab_iphone_2013_volume_controls
Vibrator/audio control flex cable
iLab Factory also notes that the vibrator in this part uses a dual-head design, which is different from the iPhone 5 vibrator design, though it’s not clear what are the advantages of using a dual-head design.
MacRumors also reports:
The other two parts shared by iLab Factory reveal little information, with the home button flex cable appearing essentially identical to the previously seen part except for a part number change from 821-1684-01 to 821-1684-02. These parts do, however, contain a significantly longer cable than seen on the corresponding iPhone 5 part.
The layout of the front camera flex cable is nearly identical to the corresponding iPhone 5 part, although this leaked part is missing the microphone and other sensors seen on the iPhone 5 part offered by iFixit.

Apple has used a small metallic toggle switch as the mute switch for iPhone 4iPhone 4S and iPhone 5, which works quite well, so push button style mute switch seems quite odd. You can’t press the toggle switch accidentally and the orange indicator can quickly tell you if your iPhone is in silent/vibrate mode. It is quite possible that these parts are meant for the rumored low-cost iPhone.
Apple’s next generation iPhone, unofficially dubbediPhone 5S, is widely expected to look similar to iPhone 5, but come with improved internals such as a faster chip and improved camera.
