How to recognize any song on your iPhone with Siri

iOS 8 brought a lot of neat little improvements that aren’t immediately apparent, and one that I’ve found especially useful is Shazam integration with Siri. This allows you to easily identify any track that’s playing on speakers near you, without having to unlock your device.
Say 'What's playing now' and Siri will Shazam it for you

To identify a track with Siri:
  • Play any song on a device or speakers, if it’s not already playing.
  • Hold the home button on your iOS device to invoke Siri and ask, “What song is playing?”
  • Siri will respond by saying: “Let me listen.”, “Listening” or something similar, and take a few seconds to recognize the track and display the results.
  • You can of course do this by invoking Siri without pressing the home button.
Nifty, isn’t it? But this doesn’t mean that the free Shazam app is now redundant: you can still use it to check out track previews and YouTube videos, and buy them via iTunes, share your finds on social networks, and plug in to Rdio, Spotify or Deezer to listen to your favorite discoveries later.

Consumer Reports finds iPhone 6 Plus less bendable than perceived

CR iPhone 6 Bending
Almost simultaneously with a new video surfacing in which Unbox Therapy performed a bending test of the iPhone 6 Plus uncut on video in downtown Toronto, Canada to prove that it was not faked, Consumer Reports is out with its own video that finds the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to be less bendable than has been portrayed by the media.
The newly releases Consumer Reports test shows that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are tougher than has been portrayed online. Based on a three-point flexural test of both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, alongside competing smartphone models from Samsung, LG and HTC, the smartphones were found to be quite robust under 55 pounds of force.
“All the phones we tested showed themselves to be pretty tough. The iPhone 6 Plus, the more robust of the new iPhones in our testing, started to deform when we reached 90 pounds of force, and came apart with 110 pounds of force. With those numbers, it slightly outperformed the HTC One (which is largely regarded as a sturdy, solid phone), as well as the smaller iPhone 6, yet underperformed some other smart phones.”
Consumer Reports rounded up the results of the bending test for each smartphone based on deformation and case separation, and the iPhone 6 Plus wasn’t even the worst performing smartphone under the stress test. That position belonged to the HTC One M8, which buckled under the least amount of force.
Take a look at the chart:

All in all, this largely non-issue has been blown way out of proportion this past week. Apple reports that it has received only 9 incidents of users that have bent their new iPhone 6 Plus, and it has promised to replace bent units following a Visual Mechanical Inspection.
If you have experienced bending issues with your iPhone 6 Plus, let us know in the comments section below.

Apple no longer signing iOS 7.1.2 as downgrade window closes

ios-7-1-2-logo
If you were planning on downgrading your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 7.1.2 and have yet to do so, you are officially out of luck. iOS jailbreak developer iH8sn0w confirmed on Friday that Apple has stopped signing iOS 7.1.2, meaning that thedowngrade window for going back to iOS 7.1.2 using iTunes is now closed.
iOS 7.1.2 happens to be the newest iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software version that has an untethered jailbreak available, courtesy of the Chinese jailbreak tool Pangu. At this point, anyone that has updated to iOS 8 or had the software version installed running out of the box will have to wait until if and when a new jailbreak is ever released. There is no publicly available jailbreak for iOS 8.0, 8.0.1 or 8.0.2, and there has been little traction within the jailbreak scene in terms of a new exploit or method being discovered. As always, we will keep you locked about the latest updates from the so-called evad3rs and other prominent members of the jailbreaking community.
iOS 8 is the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The software comes pre-installed on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, while it is available as a free update for other compatible devices. iOS 8 has several new features that are more open, including third-party keyboards, widgets and interactive notifications.
