Moshi SenseCover For iPhone 5s Lets You Answer Calls Without Opening It

The Apple iPhone is renowned for its high-end build quality, and as such, many regard it among the benchmark products in the premium handset market. With all that anodized aluminum loveliness, it stands to reason that owners want to protect it as much as possible, and the new Moshi SenseCover, which is built for the iPhone 5 and the all-new iPhone 5s, does exactly that. Not only does it operate much like a smart cover in that it protects your display when not in use, but it the precision-carved letterbox slot lets you see who’s calling and answer their call without actually opening the case.
These kinds of covers and cases have been prevalent on Android devices for many years, so this introduction of a corresponding iPhone version is certainly not before its time. Previously, if you wanted to cover the front of your device, you’d essentially have to obscure the entire display -  not particularly ideal since every notification meant more cumbersome flipping.
sensecover_sb_3
This product offers the best of both worlds, and as well as being quite a bit more practical than most in its field, the Moshi SenseCover’s ability to answer calls without being tampered with will also help to keep the dust and dirt at bay.
The subtle touch strip across the front not only allows you to answer phone calls with ease, but you can also silence alarms, so if you’re quite restless in the morning, your device will remain safe even if you toss it a little casually onto your side table.
sensecover_sb_1
So, if you’ve been watching your Android-owning buddies for a while now and wishing that you could have the same functional, sophisticated look with your iPhone, then the Moshi SenseCover has it in spades. As elegant as it looks, though, it doesn’t come cheap, and if you want to protect your beloved iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s, you’re going to have to pony up the rather steep sum of $45.
sensecover_sb_6
Then again, at least it has a USP, and if you’re in the market for something a little different, then the Moshi SenseCover is well worth checking out.
It comes in two slick color configurations -  Brushed Titanium or Steel Black – and if you’re interested, simply point your browser to: store.moshimonde.com

Nokia X Android Handset Specs Revealed In New Leak; Slightly Underwhelming

It’s looking more and more likely that Nokia will indeed be launching an Android-based handset. Thanks to a couple of previous leaks, we already have a relatively vivid picture of the UI, which looks a lot more like Windows Phone than Google’s mobile OS, and we can also have a fairly solid idea of its form factor. Now, thanks to yet another spoiler from the ever-reliableEvleaks Twitter handle, we have a list of specs for the so-called ‘Nokia X,’ and in line with previous reports, it’s pretty standard mid-range fare.
Of course, with Nokia having built a series of premium handsets like the slick Lumia 920 and sharp optics of the Lumia 1020, many were hoping that the reported Android ambitions of the Finnish company would see these kinds of devices expanded for the wider market. However,Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia back in September of 2013 threw all notion of a Nokia-Android smartphone into doubt, and while it now seems that we will soon bear witness this previously untried union, the Nokia X is certainly not going to appeal to those seeking raw power.
Bd5YFtrCMAER5BX
According to a tweet by Evleaks early today, the Nokia X will apparently sport two 1GHz Snapdragon processors, a very underwhelming 4-inch WVGA display, 512MB of RAM, dual-SIM slots, and a 1,500 mAh battery to keep things ticking over.
As for storage, there’ll allegedly be 4GB worth on-board, although this will be expandable thanks to the microSD slot. The camera, meanwhile, is a 5-megapixel effort – a very far cry from the 41-megapixel offering of the Lumia 1020. Sure, megapixel count isn’t the only determinant of a good camera, but nevertheless, it’s highly likely that, with no flash to speak of, the Nokia X’s camera will be average at best.
nokia x specs tweet
The ‘forked’ version of the Android interface we’ve seen in previously leaked images also appears similar to that of Nokia’s Asha smartphone range, and with some indication that the Nokia X could be a replacement for those devices, the rather lowly specs would seem to add further legitimacy to these claims.
The leaked snaps of the device have already all-but confirmed that the Nokia X, previously referred to by its codename ‘Normandy,’ will arrive in six different colors, and with MWC just around the corner, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to get a closer look at what Nokia has been cooking up.

MultitaskingGestures adds Zephyr-like cool multitasking gestures to iOS 7[Jailbreak Tweak]

MultitaskingGestures is an awesome new jailbreak tweak for iOS 7.
As the name suggests it adds some cool multitasking gestures to iOS 7. It’s kind of like Zephyr, the popular tweak that also added multitasking gestures, but hasn’t been updated for iOS 7.
After installing MultitaskingGestures, you will be able to do the following:
  • It allows you to switch between apps by swiping from the left or right of the screen. If you’re worried that this takes over the iOS 7 gesture that allows you to go back to the previous page, then don’t worry. All you need to do is tap and hold, and then swipe from the left or right of the screen to go back to the previous page or go to the next page.
  • It also allows you to close app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. Since it takes over the iOS 7 gesture to access the Control Center, the developer has moved Control Center in Notification Center as a new tab. It replaces the “Missed” notification tab.
MultitaskingGestures
  • The tweak also adds three-finger gestures. So you can close an app by pinching with three-fingers.
  • You can also access the app switcher by swiping up with three-fingers.
It also comes with a Settings page that allows you to customize the tweak based on your preference.

MultitaskingGestures has been developed by HamzaSood. It is available on Cydia for $1.5. The tweak is currently not compatible with iPads.

If Zephyr was one of your favorite tweaks in iOS 6, then MultitaskingGestures is a must-have as it seems highly unlikely that chpwn will update Zephyr.

Eclipse: Jailbreak Tweak brings Night Theme to iOS 7

If you’re a fan of Tweetbot’s Night Theme, then you’re going to love the new jailbreak tweak called Eclipse.
Eclipse, a highly anticipated jailbreak tweak brings Night mode across the entire iOS.
The night theme changes the color of iOS’ user interface to a darker color scheme as you can see below, which makes it a lot easier to read at night rather than being blinded by the white screen.
Apps like the Messages, Settings, Safari, App Store, Clock app etc look quite good quite good in the darker color scheme.
Eclipse1
Settings app
Eclipse3
Messages app
Eclipse4
Safari
Apps like Calendar, Music don’t look good as the dark theme is not applied to all the elements of the UI.
Eclipse5
You can also give lighter colored wallpapers a dark tint by enabling the “Darken Wallpapers” toggle.
eclipse7
Home screen (left), Home screen with Darken Wallpapers enabled (right)

You can also enable the orange tint for the font, or darken UIViews. However, the apps don’t look good with the darkened UI views, so I would recommend keeping that disabled and to be fair to the developer he does warn about it as well.
The developer plans to add new features in the future such as automatic enabling and disabling of the night mode based on the time, more color options, Activator/Flipswitch toggles (which would be very useful to enable or disable the tweak). He also plans to add iPad compatibility in the future.
It would have been nice if it was possible to enable or disable the tweak in an app using a gesture (like Tweetbot’s two finger swipe up or down to enable or disable the Night theme).

Eclipse is available on Cydia for $0.99.

Nokia Normandy with Android 4.4 KitKat listed at Vietnamese online retailer

Nokia's anticipated first Android phone, believed to be dubbed Nokia X and previously codenamed Normandy, might soon be available in Vietnam, hints an online listing of the yet-to-be-announced device.
WMPoweruser spotted the alleged Nokia X aka Normandy listed at an e-commerce website in Vietnam, purportedly revealing the innards of the rumoured device. According to the Vietnamese online listing, the alleged Nokia X will come with a 4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 480x854 (FWVGA) pixels; 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor; 5-megapixel rear camera; microSD card support and running Android 4.4 KitKat.
nokia-normandy-image-635.jpg
Further, the listing seemingly confirms that the rumoured Nokia X will come with dual-SIM support, while connectivity options including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, AGPS and Micro-USB. Other specifications include 4GB of inbuilt storage and Adreno 302 GPU.
Notably, the listing claims that the alleged Nokia X supports Google services like Google Play store, Google Search, Google Now, Google Maps, Calendar and YouTube.
It's worth pointing out that the image posted on the Vietnamese retailer's site shows the alleged Nokia X's home screen. The purported home screen includes apps for dialler, message, contacts, Internet, Twitter, Skype, MixRadio, Here Maps, Camera app, Plants Vs. Zombies, and Gallery, which is very much in-line with previous leaked screenshots of the device.
Unfortunately, the purported Vietnamese retailer's listing does not reveal anything about pricing and availability details of the alleged Nokia X phone.
Not too long ago, @evleaks claimed that Nokia's only Android phone might be launched as the Nokia X.

How much storage space does your 16GB smartphone really have?

storage-smartphone
Last year, customers who bought Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablets found out that their 64GB tablet had only 23GB free storage space, just 36% percent of the advertised storage space. Not surprisingly, this didn’t go down too well with customers.
When it comes to smartphones like the iPhone, 16GB models are quite popular as it is the entry level model. So the question is how much storage space does your 16GB phone have? Folks at the Which? magazine ran tests on eight popular 16GB smartphones to find out the answer to that question.
They’ve created the following infographic, which shows how much free storage is there in top smartphones available currently.
how-much-storage-16gb-smartphone
So as you can see, Samsung’s flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with the least amount of free storage space. It has just 8.56GB or just 54% of the advertised storage space.

iPhone 5c, Nexus 5 and iPhone 5stook the top honors with 12.60GB, 12.28GB and 12.20GB respectively. While it is understandable that some of the space is occupied by the operating system that is required to run the device, Which? magazine found that in some cases unwanted bloatware and system files occupy 46 per cent of the phone’s internal storage.
The problem is more acute with Android based devices, as carriers are also allowed to install apps before selling devices to customers. The problem is that customers are not allowed to remove some of the unnecessary or unwanted apps from their smartphones include the iPhone.
However, as the Which? magazine points out, the three smartphones that offer the most amount of storage space don’t have memory card slots, so they can’t be expanded like Galaxy S4.
So does it really matter how much free storage space is available on smartphone, especially if they’ve memory card slots? I think it does, as I felt a little cheated when I found that I got only 54% of the advertised storage space on my Samsung Galaxy S4. I must also admit that I was disappointed to find out that I just got 76% of the advertised storage space on my iPhone 5s. It would be nice if the smartphone vendors gave customers an easy way to delete the bloatware.

FolderEnhancer: Popular Folder Tweak now available for iOS 7

folderenhancer-1
iOS 7 brought a few enhancements to folders such as the ability to add unlimited number of apps etc. along with the redesigned user interface.
Apple may have borrowed some of those features from Folder Enhancer, one of our favorite jailbreak tweaks, but updated version for iOS 7 still has some tricks up its sleeve to enhance iOS folders.
FolderEnhancer (iOS 7) offers the following features:
  • It allows you to create nested folders, a folder in a folder, so you don’t have to use the workaround to create them.
  • One of the limitations of iOS 7 folders is that you can have only 9 apps (3×3) on one page. FolderEnhancer removes this limitation by allowing you to make the folders bigger by selecting a 4×4 or 5×5 layout. The 5×5 layout is currently available only for the iPad, but the developer has said that he is working to add more layout options.
  • If offers an option to close all folders when you launch an app or when you press the Home button (useful if you’re in a Nested folder).
  • It also lets you disable zooming animations and the Wallpaper zoom effect when you open or close folders.
folderenhancer-2
FolderEnhancer (iOS 7) is compatible with other tweaks such as MultiIconMover+, More Icons, Barrel,InfiniFolders and Shrink. The only issue I noticed was that after adding 16 apps to a folder, the folder name is not editable. If you look at the screenshot above, you will notice that there is an issue with the alignment of the text. These are minor issues, which I expect to be fixed soon.
FolderEnhancer (iOS 7) is available in the BigBoss repo on Cydia for $0.99. If you had purchased FolderEnhancer on iOS 6 then you will be able to install it for free.

Samsung’s profits sag as competition with the iPhone heats up

samsung-logo
Samsung posted its first quarterly profit decline in two years, reports Bloomberg. The Korean company’s financials were hit hard by a special employee bonus and slowing handset sales.
Samsung does not announce the number of handsets it sold in the quarter, leaving that figure in the hands of analysts. A report from Daewoo Securities estimates Samsung sold 9 million Galaxy S4 handsets in the quarter. Not only are sales of its flagship handset slowing, Samsung also is being squeezed by low-cost handsets being offered by Lenovo and Huawei. Though growing in numbers, sales of phones in the low-end market won’t bring in significant revenue as profit margins on these inexpensive handsets are slim.
“Earnings will remain stagnant this year as the explosive growth of the past two to three years seems to have ended,” said Lee Sun Tae, a Seoul-based analyst at NH Investment & Securities Co. “Although the lower-end smartphone market will continue to grow, the scale of profit from that segment doesn’t compare to the high-end market so the growth seems limited.”

The drop off in handset sales also effected the company’s Display unit, which saw its operating profit fall 90 percent. Slowing sales of the Galaxy S4 resulted in excess inventory, while a decrease in television set sales affected TV screen shipments.

SubtleLock gives iOS 7 Lock screen a more minimalistic look [Jailbreak Tweak]

SubtleLock4
Apple completely revamped the lock screen in iOS 7 to give it a clean and minimalistic look.
The popular Lock screen tweak SubtleLock has been updated for iOS 7, which allows you to give the Lock screen a more minimalistic look as you can see above.
It reduces the size of the clock, stuffs the clock and date in single row, thus giving Notifications more space to breath.
It offers quite a few configuration options such as the ability to add seconds to the clock, hide the date and clock, hide the Camera grabber icon etc.
It also allows you to hide the Notification Centre and Control Center grabbers at the top and bottom, which results in giving even more space to incoming Notifications as the slide to unlock text is pushed down and Clock & date field is moved to the top of the screen. You can also change the color of the text of the Clock and date fields using a RGB slider.

Starbucks admits its iPhone app stores passwords in clear text

starbucks
Computerworld reports that Starbucks has admitted that login details were stored in clear text, and was not encrypted in their iPhone app, one of the most used mobile payment apps in the U.S.
The vulnerability was discovered by security researcher Daniel Wood. He publishedthe details of the vulnerability online after he was not successful in contacting Starbucks even after repeated attempts.
Computerworld reports:
The credentials were stored in such a way that anyone with access to the phone can see the passwords and usernames by connecting the phone to a PC. No jailbreaking of the phone is necessary. And that clear text also displays an extensive list of geolocation tracking points (latitude, longitude), a treasure trove of security and privacy gems for anyone who steals the phone.
Starbuck claims that it has made changes at its end to mitigate the issue, however Woods reports that the problem still exists in the latest version of Starbucks mobile app.

Though it doesn’t seem to be a major risk, as someone with malicious intent still needs to get access to your iPhone to be able to get access to your login details stored in clear text, we expect a lot more from Starbuck

BioUnlock: Upcoming jailbreak tweak will let you unlock your Mac using TouchID

biounlock
BioUnlock is an upcoming jailbreak tweak from Eric Castro that’ll let you unlock your Mac using your iPhone’s TouchID fingerprint sensor. You’ll be able to scan one fingerprint to unlock the Mac and another fingerprint to unlock the phone.
The system requires you to install and application on the Mac, install the tweak from Cydia, and then pair the two devices. Once you map the fingerprints to their functionality, you’ll be all set to go.

According to Castro, the basic unlocking functionalities are completed, but the iOS and OS X apps still need some polish. He hopes to release the utility before the end of the year. You can check out the BioUnlock tweak in the video below. Looks cool, doesn’t it?

HP Announces 6 And 7 Inch Android Phatblets, Wants To Jump Onto The Smartphone Bandwagon Again

Hewlett Packard famously exited the smartphone and tablet industry back in 2011 when they made the business decision to retire webOS. After concentrating its collective efforts on a number of different industries, HP will today announce its plans to re-enter the mobile space by introducing two "phablets" that will initially be introduced into the Indian marketplace. The 6 and 7-inch VoiceTab devices are billed as tablets, but will come enabled with voice features that will bring calling capabilities to the hardware.
HP may have found their popularity fading in a lot of the world’s major economies but its consumer facing products have remained strong in India, which could be the driving force behind the decision to release the two slates. The two VoiceTab devices will both ship running Android 4.2 and come with an internal storage capacity of 16GB with the ability to expand that storage through use of microSD cards. Both the 6-inch and 7-inch variants will feature dual HD camera modules, dual SIM-card slots and stereo speakers that should definitely appeal to the media conscious consumers in India.
hp_slate6
The 6-inch VoiceTab version will come equipped with a 720p display, whereas the 7-inch option will offer a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, both of which will be powered by a quad-core processor. HP has clearly paid a lot of attention to the aesthetics of the two tablets and have opted for a rear design with "a premium pixilated, scratch-resistant back cover". The decision to re-enter the smartphone market, albeit initially in India, shouldn’t really come as a great surprise. CEO Meg Whitman admitted in an interview last September that her company would "ultimately have to offer a smartphone".
hp-slate6-1025-a
India’s consistent love of HP’s consumer technology doesn’t necessarily mean that the devices will be an immediate success when launched. The likes of Samsung and Nokia both have a relatively healthy share of the smartphone industry in the Indian marketplace, making things a little tougher for HP.
Ron Coughlin, Vice President for HP’s consumer PC business, believes that there is a "need in India that we can meet" and that consumers are increasingly "looking for a way to consolidate devices". There’s currently no indication that the hardware will launch in any other markets or what the initial pricing point will be when launched.

iPhone 6 To Reportedly Feature 5.5-inch Full HD Display, iWatch To Feature Flexible AMOLED

Reports pertaining unreleased Apple gadgets are aplenty, particularly at this time of the year when analysts and commentators try to piece together the release calendar using clues, tip-offs, historical context and some good, old-fashioned conjecture. And now a new report has just popped up which is backed by some research, and believes that Apple may be preparing an iPhone 6 with a 5.5-inch display, while the screen of the so-called iWatch device may be comprised of flexible AMOLED.
If either were to ring true, they’d certainly be firsts given that the company has stuck with the small phone form factor from the get-go, while AMOLED is something that only rivals have utilized.
The original iPhone offered a 3.5-inch display, and although things got a great deal sharper and generally more beautiful with the iPhone 4, it wasn’t until the iPhone 5 – released only late in 2012 – that Apple pushed the boundaries and offered (an admittedly stingy) 1/2-inch increase.
There is a growing faction of Apple fans looking for something larger, though, and with the likes of the HTC One easily competing with the iPhone in terms of aesthetics, the Cupertino outfit knows that it cannot afford to rest on its laurels for too much longer. Almost every year, we’ve heard rumors pertaining an iPhone with more display real estate, but only this time around does it actually seem as though we may actually get it.
As well as the 5.5-inch model, the 4.7-inch, lower-end model will be made to suit those with smaller hands and pockets. This second configuration would still represent a significant leap from the 4-inch panel of the current flagship iPhone 5s, and with a 1,600 x 900 resolution offering 386 pixels per inch, it’ll be both comfortably within Apple’s arbitrary "Retina" zone and sharper than any other iPhone we’ve seen to date.
The iPhone roster’s major changes could well be upstaged by the introduction of the alleged iWatch, which will, if what we’re led to believe is true, compete with the likes of the Pebble, Sony and Samsung in the smartwatch field. Unfortunately, despite having heard a lot of it, we’ve yet to really learn about its tech specs, form factor, or any otherwise interesting details, but according to the report, its display will be Apple’s first AMOLED.
Moreover, the report mentions flexible AMOLED with a pixel density between 278ppi and 348ppi, depending on whether the display’s diameter stands at 1.3 or 1.6 inches.
Hopefully, we will soon begin to see some evidence to substantiate these claims.

Purported photos of iPhone 6 metal housing surface; reveals thinner design, larger screen

Chinese site CTech has posted photos of what it claims is the metal housing of the next-generation iPhone, that is widely rumored to feature a larger screen.
The photos show a frame that is very thin, and is much larger than the current iPhone’s 4-inch screen.
A major portion of the iPhone is taken up by the battery, and with a larger screen, the battery could be spread over a wider area, allowing the phone to become even thinner.
iphoen 6 1iphone 6 2

Rumors claim that the iPhone 6 could be as thin as 6 millimetres, as compared to the iPhone 5s’ 7.6mm thickness, and the iPhone 5c’s 8.97mm thickness. The screen size is said to be somewhere between 4.7 and 5.7 inches, with some rumors even saying that Apple could release two iPhones with completely new sizes.

Samsung will launch Galaxy S5 by April; may include Eye-Scanner to take on Apple’s iPhone 5s

irisscan121613
Bloomberg Businessweek reports that Samsung is planning to launch its next generation flagship Android device, the Galaxy S5 by April to compete with Apple’s iPhone 5s.
Lee Young Hee, Executive Vice president of Samsung’s Mobile Business sat down with Bloomberg Businessweek a few days ago and revealed some interesting details about the products that will be launched in 2014.
Here’s what she had to say about the Galaxy S5 launch:
“We’ve been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time,” Lee said. “When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.”
She also admitted that Galaxy S4 didn’t meet customer expectations as it looked very similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S3. She hinted that the S5 will sport an all-new design, but didn’t provide any more details.
“When we moved to S4 from S3, it’s partly true that consumers couldn’t really feel much difference between the two products from the physical perspective, so the market reaction wasn’t as big,” she said. “For the S5, we will go back to the basics. Mostly, it’s about the display and the feel of the cover.”
Samsung is also studying the possibility of including iris recognition technology in Galaxy S5, probably to counter iPhone 5s’ Touch ID fingerprint sensor. However, she wasn’t sure if it will have it or not. Samsung will also launch the second generation Galaxy Gear smartwatch alongside Galaxy G5 with “with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.”
She also hinted that the next generation Galaxy Note phablet, Note 4 that is expected to be launched in the second half of this year, will come with a three-sided or wraparound display, which will allow users to read messages from an angle.
“We are targeting consumers who want more professional use and tend to be willing to pay more for handsets,” Samsung’s Lee said.

The sales of Samsung Galaxy S4 have slowed down after the launch of Apple’s iPhone 5s, so the launch of Galaxy S5 will be very important for the company
