How to recorde slow motion video like in iPhone 5s in iPhone 5

Apple is rightly pleased with its inclusion of 120fps slow motion feature in the iPhone 5s, and if the videos we have already seen taken with the device are any indication, it will be more than another feature that never gets used beyond the first couple of weeks. We’re looking at you, Samsung.
The problem with something like slow motion on the iPhone 5s though, is that everyone wants it. While not all iPhone owners will be upgrading to an iPhone 5s this year, that doesn’t mean that we don’t want to be able to take fancy slow motion videos on our existing hardware. Thankfully there are already a few apps on the App Store that promise to do just that, and a new one to join the fray is SlowCam, from iPhoneClan.

Priced at $1.99, there is obviously no doubt that the app is considerably cheaper than buying an iPhone 5s. That’s all well and good, but can the app really compete? Well, the description claims the app can do slow motion video on anything from the iPhone 5 upwards, with both the 5 and 5c being able to shoot at 60fps. The iPhone 5s can record video at 120fps using SlowCam too, just as it can using the standard iOS Camera app. SlowCam may still be worth checking out even if you have an iPhone 5s though, thanks to one or two of its other features.

One of the feature listed in the description is ‘Torch’, we’re going to hope that iPhoneClan actually mean that video can be recorded with the flash activated, seeing as there’s no real reason for a video recording app to act as a standalone torch, too.

At a couple of dollars SlowCam is far from expensive, so if you have an iPhone 5 or 5c then there really isn’t a great deal to lose from trying the app out for yourselves. The interface certainly looks the part, which is more than can be said for some of the competition on the App Store.

Is It Safe To Upgrade To iOS 7.0.2 For Prospective Jailbreakers??

With Apple having released iOS 7.0.2 to all iOS 7-compatible iPads, iPhones and the iPod touch 5th-gen, many of you have been in contact with us asking whether updating your device would hinder any chances of a future jailbreak.
Since the various developers behind the jailbreaks have yet to show their hands, it was always going to be unlikely that a new firmware release would hinder their progress, and thankfully, MuscleNerd of team Evad3rs has stepped out and confirmed that those iOS 7 users looking to update can indeed do so without worry.

Via Twitter, MuscleNerd did make note of the rather excessive amount of detail made by Apple in the update notice, but also confirmed that since nothing about iOS 7.0.2 suggests Apple has tried to implement any anti-jailbreak measures, that it is safe for all existing iOS 7 users to update without any kind of risk to a future jailbreak.

Of course, if you are still on iOS 6.x and are enjoying your jailbreak, you should stay there, as there is currently no ETA whatsoever on arrival of iOS 7.x jailbreak.

It often takes some months of searching for security holes and extensive testing before a jailbreak is ready for prime time, and with the Evad3rs team having delivered the goods previously with the iOS 6 Evasi0n jailbreak, Cydia fans far and wide will be hoping for more of the same now that the new-look iOS 7 has finally hit the end user.
Although, for a change, it would appear that Apple has implemented some new features and made changes based upon popular jailbreak tweaks (Control Center is somewhat derivative of SBSettings), the jailbreak scene will always continue to thrive so long as iOS remains a closed-source entity. The ability to tweak and alter the general experience beyond the mere installation of apps has become something of an institution to many iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users over the years, and although a jailbreak used to be rather easy for the hackers to achieve, Apple has gone to great lengths to ensure the process is as tricky as possible.

As such, we should not see a jailbreak as a divine right, but as something we can potentially look forward to. The hackers and modders work very hard in trying to find the exploits, and with a one hundred percent record for jailbreaking each major version of iOS untethered, we’ve high hopes once again.

Protect your iPhone against theft with Activation Lock in iOS 7

find_my_iphone_icon
Apple introduced Find My iPhone back in 2010 as a way for iOS users to locate their device in case it was lost or stolen. It also offers an easy method to remotely delete all the data on your device to protect sensitive information.
They’ve quite a few success stories reported in the media about people using the service to find their lost or stolen devices.
Unfortunately, it had a major weakness, it was very easy for someone to erase and restore the device as a new device, and use it.
Apple has addressed this limitation with a new feature called Activation Lock in iOS 7, that ties your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with your Apple ID.
Here’s how Find My iPhone with Activation Lock works in iOS 7 and will help your protect your iPhone from theft:
  • There is no new setting to enable or disable Activation Lock, the feature has been integrated with Find my iPhone, so it will be enabled automatically when you enable Find My iPhone. To enable Find my iPhone, go to Settings, scroll down and tap on iCloud, turn on Find my iPhone. You can be prompted to sign in with your Apple ID. If you had enabled Find my iPhone before upgrading to iOS 7, then Activation Lock will be enabled.

  • When you enable Find my iPhone in iOS 7, Apple stores your Apple ID on its Activation services and links it to your device. So going forward, your password will be required before anyone can turn off Find My iPhone on your device, erase your device, or reactivate and use your device.
  • It is not possible to turn off Find my iPhone without entering the Apple ID password. This is to ensure that someone who has access to your iPhone, cannot disable it without your knowledge.
  • You also can’t restore the device using iTunes. iTunes will inform you that the device cannot be restored as Find my iPhone is on. So you need to first turn off Find my iPhone, which as we mentioned earlier, will prompt you to enter the Apple ID password, and then restore the device using iTunes.
  • If someone tries to erase all the content and settings from the device via the Settings app, he or she will be prompted to enter the Apple ID password.
  • Someone can restore the device by putting it in DFU or recovery mode, however after restoring your device, the person will be prompted to enter the Apple ID and password during the setup process, so it won’t be possible to use the device.
  • Apple has also made improvements to the Lost mode feature in iOS 7. Now when you remotely wipe the data on your lost or stolen device using Find my iPhone app, you will still be able to display the custom message with your phone number on the Lock screen. iTunes will also display this message when someone connects the device to a computer running iTunes.

  • If you are lucky to get your device back, you can reactivate it by entering your Apple ID and password, and restore it using iCloud or iTunes if you had remotely wiped the data.

  • Someone can turn off the device when it is Lost mode, which would take it off the radar and prevent the device from being tracked. But it is kind of pointless as the person will have to enter the passcode to gain access to the device after turning it on.
  • If you’re planning to sell your device with iOS 7, you should disable Find my iPhone in order to deactivate the Activation Lock. You should also check for Activation Lock before purchasing a used device.

Oops! EBay seller cancels sale of gold iPhone 5s for $10,100

iPhone 5s Ebay
Although EBay's website says a gold iPhone 5s was sold for more than $10,000, the seller of the item said the sale was canceled due to a mistake by the top buyer. When buying items on EBay, be careful how you type.
A typing mistake caused a user to bid $10,100 for a gold iPhone 5s earlier this week -- more than 50 times the item's regular price of $200 with a two-year contract -- and got the person worldwide attention.
But while the gadget is listed as sold on EBay, the item's seller said Friday that he has canceled the transaction at the request of the buyer, who apparently typed in one too many zeroes when bidding for the popular smartphone.

Rs 12,000. That’s All Your iPhone 5S Actually Costs.

iPhone 5S

Just yesterday we got you news that theiPhone 5S is selling for as high as Rs 1 lakh in the grey markets of Mumbai and Delhi in India. While the price is for the much coveted iPhone 5S Gold, the silver and black variants aren’t exactly any cheaper. However, according to a recent report by IHS, making the all new iPhone 5S isn’t exactly any more complex or expensive than manufacturing the previous version. All said and done, the all new iPhone 5S costs just $200 or approximately,  Rs 12,000 to manufacture.

According to data provided by IHS, a total of the components used to make the iPhone 5S costs approximately $190.90. Putting these components together and manufacturing the actual device you hold in your hand is a measly $8 extra. The total cost of the iPhone 5S isn’t any more than 198.70 dollars. This is just a little over a dollar expensive to manufacture as the iPhone 5 cost $197 to make.
iPhone 5SiPhone 5S

There’s no real change in design in the iPhone 5S. The only new hardware additions are the flash, the Touch ID sensor and the 64 bit chipware. These additions have clearly fit well under one dollar making it a real sweet deal for Apple.

Clearly, with the prices ranging from over 10,000 dollars on popular auctioning sites to over Rs 1 lakh in India, Apple has more than enough of their share of profits in the kitty.

iPhone 5S or the next ‘big’ iPhone is not any different from the previous model, clearly in terms of making. But how does the now tagged along younger sibling fare?

iPhone 5C is clearly the budget option for the iPhone 5S. Try as they might, Apple cannot take away the 'cheap' moniker from iPhone 5C and replace it with the actual iPhone 5 Colourful. iPhone 5C might be the cheaper variant but how expensive is it to make?

The phone is clearly nothing more than a pastic-moulded and slightly revamped iPhone 5. Therefore, the making of the iPhone 5C shouldn't really cost any more. And indeed it doesn't. Infact, iPhone 5C manufacturing is relatively cheaper than that of the iPhone 5. According to IHS data, making the iPhone 5C doesn't cost anything more than $173.45, keeping in mind both, the components and making parts.
iPhone 5CiPhone 5C

iPhone 5C might be Apple's answer to iPhone enthusiasts in emerging markets like Asia but the pricing of the phone hasn't exactly endeared the device. While rumours are rife that iPhone 5C will cost nearly Rs 40,000 in India, the phone is pegged at $549 in the US. If those honchos at Apple call Rs 40,000 cheap, they really live in their Silicon Valley bubbles and need a wake-up call. Soon.

Even if Apple decides to reduce costs and bring down the price, chances of iPhone 5C being cheaper than iPhone 5 are remote. And with the exact same features and phones marketed in plastic at a premium cost, it might be better for you to buy the iPhone 5 which is sure to get a heavy price drop.

Whatever the manufacturing costs be, the profits are clearly flowing to Apple coffers... There is a price for innovation, you argue? Oh well. If you say so!
