If you take into account AllThingsD’s solid track record, it is almost certain that Apple will launch the highly anticipated next generation iPhone, dubbed iPhone 5S at a media event on September 10.
AllThingsD however didn’t mention when the new iPhone will be released. So we take a look at the possible release date for iPhone 5S based on the release timetable Apple has been following for the last few years.
Since the launch of iPhone 4 in October 2011, Apple has usually released the new iPhone, 8 to 9 days after the launch event. Apple also likes to launch the new iOS device on a Friday, so based on the pattern followed by Apple over the last 2 years, iPhone 5S release date will most likely be Friday, September 20.
iPhone models Launch Event Release Date
iPhone 2G (Original iPhone) January 9, 2007 June 29, 2007
iPhone 3G June 9, 2008 July 11, 2008
iPhone 3GS June 8, 2009 June 19, 2009
iPhone 4 June 7, 2010 June 24, 2010
iPhone 4S October 4, 2011 October 14, 2011
iPhone 5 September 12, 2012 September 21, 2012
iPhone 5S September 10, 2013? September 20, 2013?
It is highly unlikely that Apple will release iPhone 5S on September 13, as it would need some time to ship the devices from China after it starts taking pre-orders. But it is possible that Apple will start taking pre-orders on that day, if the release date is September 20.
Interestingly, September 20 would also be the release date based on the release timetable Apple followed for the iOS 6 last year. Last year, iOS 6 was unveiled at the WWDC 2012 on June 11, and was released on September 19, exactly after 100 days, and iPhone 5 was launched after two days on September 21, 2012. Since, iOS 7 was unveiled at WWDC 2013 on June 10, based on last year’s release timetable, iOS 7 could be released on September 18 (June 10 + 100 days), and iPhone 5S after two days on September 20.
