When Apple launched the App Store on July 10th, 2008, even they would not have thought in their wildest imaginations that it would end up becoming such a huge success.
The success of the App Store was clear when one billion apps were downloaded in just 9 months. Fast forward to today and the App Store is about to hit the magical 50 billion app download mark.
To celebrate the milestone Apple has just launched the 50 Billion Apps Countdown promotion. The user who downloads the 50 billionth app from the App Store will get a $10,000 App Store gift card. This time round Apple is also giving $500 to each of the next 50 people to download an app.
Apps have revolutionized the way we play video games, consume news, do business, educate, communicate, create art, and so much more. As we approach 50 billion app downloads, we’ll be awarding a $10,000 App Store Gift Card to the lucky customer who downloads the 50 billionth app, and a $500 App Store Gift Card to each of the next 50 people to download an app.
You are automatically entered when you download an app. You can enter the promotion up to 25 times every day by either downloading an app from the App Store or by simply filling an alternate entry form – for free.
Apple ran a similar promotion for 10 billion app downloads in 2011 and for 25 billion app downloads in March last year. The App Store crossed the 40 billion app downloads just in January this year.
