iH8sn0w, Chpwn Hit With The iMessage DOS Attack - Apple released iMessage first time in iOS 5, it is one of the best messaging service available for any Smartphone. The best part about this service is that it embeds in to the native Messaging app on the iPhone, so users will receive/send iMessages right from the messages app. But it looks that Fruit Company isn’t checking this service for the Spamming, because many famous iOS hackers have been affected by the iMessage Denial of Service Attack. In this attack, the user receives many messages from the same contact and in the end the Message application crashes.
iH8sn0w, Chpwn Hit With The iMessage DOS Attack
This news was brought by the famous weblogTheNextWeb and the list of famous hackers affected with this hack includes iH8sn0w (Developer of Sn0wbreeze, iFaith and many other famous tools), Chpwn (Developer of Grid Lock and Zephyr) and Ryan Petrich. The responsible person for this hack was a twitter account which was also involved in many illegal tasks such as selling of Siri proxy Servers and UDIDs of devices. Here’s whatTheNextWeb posted about this news:
“The messages, likely transmitted via the OS X Messages app using a simple AppleScript, rapidly fill up the Messages app on iOS or the Mac with text, forcing a user to constantly clear both notifications and messages. In some instances, the messages can be so large that they completely lock up the Messages app on iOS, constituting a ‘denial of service’ (DoS) attack of sorts, even though in this case they appear to be a prank. Obviously, if the messages are repeated an annoyingly large volume but don’t actually crash the app, they’re still limiting the use you’ll get out of the service. But if a string that’s complex enough to crash the app is sent through, that’s a more serious issue.”
It was supposed that the hacker was a member of the famous Anonymous Hacking group, but the Ryan Petrich, developer of many Cydia tweaks has dug deeply in this matter and found that the spam came from Support@isiri.com. Here’s what he tweeted:
Another developer has tried to contact Apple regarding this matter but hasn’t received any feedback. The hackers hope that Apple will add some new features in iMessage such as blocking a specific person or addition of Blacklist. What do you think about this attack?
