iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak Status – Apple released iOS 6.1.3 to the public. Prior to the release of this firmware, it was said that Apple fixed few bugs and also patched exploits used by Evasi0n to jailbreak all iOS capable devices running iOS 6.0 -6.1.2. Hackers have warned those that wants an untethered jailbreak to refrain from updating to the latest firmware (iOS 6.1.3).
iOS 6.1.3 Untethered Jailbreak Status
Some heeded to this warning and some didn’t. Consequently, those that upgraded to this latest firmware are still waiting for an untethered jailbreak for their devices.
Sadly, there won’t be an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 for all iDevices. According to tweets by one of the notable hackers @pod2j, ”
we (Evad3rs) are not working on a iOS 6.1.3 jailbreak that would be too much effort for a minimal update. We’re waiting for a major release.
Truly speaking, it will be useless to expend so much energy on a minor update like iOS 6.1.3 just to please a minor few that updated to it.
Although, its not all bad news as some devices can be tethered jailbroken like iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G on iOS 6.1.3 with the help ofRedsn0w 0.9.15b3 and snowbreeze 2.9.14.
Furthermore, even if you downgraded from iOS 6.1.3 to 6.1.2, you will be able to convert tethered to untethered.
Therefore, if you want an untethered jailbreak on your device, you should stay away from updating to iOS 6.1.3.
According to these hackers, work is more focused on jailbreaking a newer major firmware that would be released (iOS 6.2 or 7.0) in order to release its untethered jailbreak in record time. This can be seen in one of the tweets of Joshua Hill below
According to Joshua Hill tweet, he is making substantial progress on perhaps untethered jailbreak of this major firmware release. This isn’t surprising because he started working on it long ago. The effort to bring untethered jailbreak to iOS 7 is really going strong and we can expect an untethered jailbreak as soon as this iOS 7 is released.
For those that would be getting new iDevices shipped with iOS 6.0, use evasi0n to jailbreak your device. Do not try updating to 6.1.3 for now if you want untethered jailbreak.
In Summary,
- There is no untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 only on old bootrom 3GS.
- Tethered jailbreak only support iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G.
- iPhone 4S and 5 users cannot downgrade there firmware from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 6.1.2. Only A4 devices can.
Finally, our esteemed hackers who just finished the Hack In The Box (HITB) conference are working intensely on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7. That should put smiles on our faces again when iOS 7 is released.
